Author Spotlight – Interview with Alexis Anicque

Spread the love

Meet Alexis Anicque, an experienced author and avid adventurer, driven by my love for travel and exploration. As a mother of two grown children and Nana of four, her family is her pride and joy. In her free time, she enjoys writing and sailing, while her insatiable wanderlust often finds her jumping on planes, trains, or buses. Although she now lives in a charming cottage in the woods, she is drawn to the energy and excitement of city life. Overall, she truly loves to be off on some great adventure and she hopes to share that adventurous spirit with her readers.

Q1 – What is the name of your latest project? Tell us more about why you embarked on this project. If a writer, share your synopsis.

I am finishing the second in  an autobiographical nonfiction short story series about my husband and I moving onto a sailboat, it is quite motivational and about alternative lifestyles and Americans addictions to stuff.

Q2 – What inspired you when you encountered struggles along the way?

My zest for life!

Q3 – Have you ever traveled as research for your work/project/story?

I always say I have fire under my feet, I land somewhere and see all I want, but then I am ready to run again.

Q4 – How has your lived experience influenced your work/project/story?

This is one hundred percent my shared experience of adventures with my husband.

Q5 – What do you want readers to take away from your work/project/story?

Whatever you can’t walk away from owns you! The reality of our existence and how if we hadn’t jumped when we did we would have missed out on that life.

Q6 – Do you believe books can inspire social change? How?

Possibly, it can change people’s perspective of stuff and how it anchors you.

Q7 – Anton Chekhov said, “The world is, of course, nothing but our conception of it.” What is your opinion of this statement? How does it coincide or conflict with your perspective of the world?

Absolutely true and I feel like also our perception of our world is our conception of our world. “Jump Before You Fall” shows this motivational theory in many of the pages.

Q8 – What personal experience had the greatest influence on your worldview?

Racing sailboats.

Q9 – What perspectives or beliefs have you challenged in your work/project/story?

Not even one thing. It is factual events that created my beliefs.

Q10 – How do you see the relationship between writing and culture? How about the boundaries between fiction and reality?

Unfortunately our culture is taking a downturn in readers with the gaming, TV, and phone usage, but I believe there is a little truth in everything and a lot of fiction as well.

Q11 – Aldous Huxley said, “I wanted to change the world. But I have found that the only thing one can be sure of changing is oneself.” How have you changed throughout your creative process? How do you improve yourself every day?

I have changed in the aspect of knowledge about myself. I love telling stories and adore speaking in public, but the whole indie author thing is more challenging than that. I find it all so tedious sometimes. It often causes me to procrastinate. I really just wanted to share my stories.

Q12 – Eckhart Tolle said, “Awareness is the greatest agent for change.” In your opinion, what is the next step and how can writers affect this?

Bringing more questions to get readers thinking in different ways.

Q13 – Intolerance and divisiveness are prevalent across the globe. Our voice may not be loud enough to right every wrong, but it is enough to make a difference one person at a time. Small acts move mountains. What one thing would you ask your audience to do to help inspire social change?

Stop calling out our differences, we are all human, flesh and blood. I have been in many places surrounded by diversity that was never acknowledged as differences. When we openly separate ourselves by our preferences or race, we are openly celebrating our prejudices.

Q14 – Pick 1-3 social issues that are most important to you. Explain why you picked these and how we can help raise awareness/impact change.

Nothing really comes to mind other than the one I previously mentioned. I’ve spent the better part of my life with people from other countries that see life in a much different way than we do here in America. Celebration of life can be a way of life.

Q15 – Maya Angelou said, “I did then what I knew how to do, but now that I know better, I do better.” We have all made choices that we regret. We are all flawed humans. Together, we are experiencing this human story unfolding. Share a transformative experience where you learned from a mistake. How do you actively choose to make better choices?

I don’t believe in mistakes, life’s lessons are life’s lessons. I try to do better each day, but I can’t think of a transformative mistake I have made. Though I have have many transformative situations, car accidents, husband’s illness, loss of father, brother’s suicide, and more that have pointed me to the choices I have made.

Q16 – Challenge readers and listeners with action steps to increase engagement with identifying hashtag and @mention.
